Meerut ki Rewdi (or Gud ki Rewari) translates to Meerut's Jaggery Sesame Candy/Sweet, a traditional, crunchy Indian winter treat made primarily from jaggery (gur), sesame seeds (til), and clarified butter (ghee), flavored with cardamom and cloves, known for its health benefits and unique texture, popular in North India as a festive snack.

This is the story of how a small, round candy from the small district of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh has floored millions across the world. Come winters and the fragrance of the rewdi from Meerut wafts across the land enticing everybody. A bag of these brittle candies or rewdi made of jaggery or gur, clarified butter or ghee and sesame or til is a must have in every household.

The artisans who make the rewdi are said to be master craftsmen who have learnt the art of making it from generations and indeed the rewdi from Meerut bears testament to this fact.

At Kabliwala, our own craftsmen painstakingly work the gur for hours eventually making it plaint enough to turn into thin strings before they mix the sesame into it. It is then allowed to cool into the small rewdi we all love so much.

The rewdi is known for its health benefits, especially during the cold winter months of the north. It helps keep warm and prevents coughs and colds. It is also a rich source of proteins and minerals such as of iron, potassium and magnesium.
